Welcome to my porch.

Okay, I get it, you aren’t at my house, so that’s a weird thing to say. But let me explain. My name is Kerri Firth. Before porchology, I was a teacher of grades K through 3 in Texas, New York, North Carolina, and Georgia. I earned my M.S.Ed. from Johns Hopkins University. This was a personal blog, and you can still read about my fancy-free days in the Archives. And then I became a mom, and everything shifted. After teaching for 10 years, I stayed home with my kids. I didn’t know what this space was for anymore, although I felt I still needed an outlet.

Purpose was reborn with the COVID-19 pandemic. As schools were cancelled and people started working from home, a friend suggested that I take some of the activities I do with my kids to Instagram. And then I got a message via Facebook, asking if there was another way to access the ideas if they aren’t on Instagram. So, here we are.

As goofy as it feels, I think that porchology is my personal philosophy. It’s about personal connection and learning. That’s what I’m hoping to do with Activities for Kids - to inspire people to see beauty in the midst of a mess, while connecting with family. Some of the ideas are borrowed from others and some are my own. I hope you will make some time to try them out. And I hope it all feels as cozy as a nice front porch. Thanks for stopping by!
